Spain Shows Interest In Rafa Benitez

Former Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager Benitez is on the Spanish shortlist to succeed Julen Lopetegui, who was sensationally sacked on the eve of the World Cup.

The Spanish FA dispensed with Lopetegui when they discovered he would quit at the end of the tournament to succeed Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid.

It is widely felt that the controversial decision has backfired as Spain underachieved in Russia and failed to reach the quarter-finals.

Fernando Hierro – who won 89 caps for his country and is regarded as a legend – was made caretaker manager but his hopes of being offered the job have not been helped by the side’s failure over the last few weeks.
